Above, where waters reflect

A blue sky slightly tainted grey,

In between, where all

Is an unresolved mess,

Or below, where the windows to many souls

Are reflected on the water’s surface,

Where is it

That dreams lie in wait

For weary eyes

Hidden beneath the water’s face?

Petals of a Rose

From the moment the sun touched his skin for the very first time, the man was given a rose with thirty thousand petals attached to it.

Whenever it decided to rest the man would remove a petal, whisper something to it and let it fly off into the wind.

He never knew where these petals would land.

One day, after whispering some words to the final petal from the rose, the sun refused to wake up. On this day, however, the man knew that that petal had landed in a river and was making its way around the world, looking for its lost brothers and sisters.

He closed his eyes and returned to the eternal night where stars sang to him songs of unimaginable beauty. Every now and then he came across a lost petal floating in the void. With each petal he found, the man remembered fondly the day he had let it go away. Some of the petals were ragged and torn, while others shimmered with a fire that reminded him of his old friend the sleepy sun.

Some petals had lost their pigment and were so full of holes they resembled eyes whose tears fell into empty space. It was these petals that the man danced with the most. They danced to the music of twinkling stars in a great wasteland.

He kept all the petals returning in that eternal night until one day a petal came out of a river, pulling the sun behind it.

The man wept. He had a new rose with thirty thousand petals.

These too he gave away to the world with hopes of one day returning to the stars so their dance could commence once again.

Check out a poem of mine that’s just been published in Inky Needles. Also look at their other pieces as well, it’s a pretty good Journal and they have a fantastic homepage. They cover an array of topics and fields from a unique perspective. Their areas include philosophy, poetry, news and politics. They are also accept submissions and have a quick turnover. They even give pointers on some of the pieces they reject. Here is a link to the Journal and the poem:
